HSAW Bare MS Pipes
Helical Submerged Arc Welded mild-steel pipes per IS 3589 & IS 5504. BIS certified.
India's premier manufacturer of large-diameter Helical / Spiral Submerged Arc Welded MS Pipes — serving infrastructure, irrigation and water projects nationwide from Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.
MTL Pipes is an approved pipe supplier to major EPC and infrastructure contractors executing water, irrigation and utility pipeline projects across India.

Our pipes carry water for state water boards, irrigation corporations, municipal corporations and cross-border hydro projects — some of the most demanding government pipeline programmes in the country.

Promoted by the Manik Group — with over four decades of industrial manufacturing experience — MTL Pipes India Ltd. produces Spiral / Helical Submerged Arc Welded MS pipes with a comprehensive range of anti-corrosion coatings. Our integrated facility at Pithampur Industrial Hub combines world-class production technology with rigorous quality control and a deep environmental commitment.
From decoiling to final coating, every stage is engineered, monitored and tested — delivering pipes that perform for decades in drinking water, irrigation, oil & gas and cross-country transmission projects.
ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 — independently audited by Intertek and MIS, internationally accredited.
Fully automated production: de-coiling → edge milling → spiral bending → SAW welding → testing & coating.
BIS-licensed manufacture with full traceability from coil heat number to dispatch.
Five coating systems — FBE, PE, CTE, Liquid Epoxy & CWC — from 100 to 1,000 microns, internal & external.
Destructive & non-destructive testing — zero-error manufacturing through rigorous batch verification.
Accepted by government agencies and leading EPC contractors — with dispatch discipline that keeps projects on schedule.

Common technical and commercial questions from procurement engineers, consultants and EPC contractors.
HSAW stands for Helical (Spiral) Submerged Arc Welded pipe. It is made by uncoiling a hot-rolled steel coil, milling its edges, and forming it into a spiral (helix) at a programmed angle to reach the required diameter. The resulting helical seam is welded from both inside and outside using the submerged arc process.
Because diameter is set by the forming angle rather than by the coil width, a single coil width can produce many pipe diameters — which makes HSAW the most economical method for large-diameter pipe. At MTL Pipes the full sequence is: de-coiling → edge milling → spiral bending → SAW welding → testing → coating.
MTL Pipes manufactures HSAW pipes from 20″ to 130″ outside diameter (approximately 500 mm to 3,250 mm), with wall thickness from 5 mm to 16 mm and lengths up to 12 metres.
Twelve standard diameters are listed on our products page. Custom diameters, wall thicknesses, lengths and end preparations are produced against project order.
Five coating systems are applied in-house, with a combined capacity of 3 million m² per year:
FBE (fusion-bonded epoxy, 100–1,000 microns, external with optional internal lining) · PE (three-layer polyethylene to DIN 30670 / IS 15389) · CTE (coal-tar enamel with glass-fibre wrap to IS 10221) · Liquid Epoxy (internal rotary-spray lining for drinking water, to AWWA C210) · CWC (concrete weight coating for submerged and offshore lines).
Bare pipe is manufactured to IS 3589 and IS 5504. Pipes are also supplied against AWWA C200 where specified.
Coatings follow IS 15389 (3LPE), IS 10221 (coating and wrapping of buried pipelines), API RP 5L9 (FBE) and AWWA C205 / C210 (internal linings).
Yes. MTL Pipes holds a BIS licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards under IS 3589 and IS 5504, and carries the ISI mark.
The company is also certified to ISO 9001:2015 (quality, certificate 0110353 issued by Intertek, a UKAS accredited body), ISO 14001:2015 (environment, certificate 24MEETO03) and ISO 45001:2018 (occupational health and safety, certificate 24MEOPI23). All three certificates can be viewed on the certifications page.
The Pithampur plant produces 1,00,000 MT (100,000 metric tonnes) per year on one fully automated HSAW line, with a separate coating capacity of 3 million m² per year across the five coating systems.
Every pipe is 100% hydrostatically tested. Weld seams undergo ultrasonic testing, with radiographic verification at weld start and stop points, plus dimensional and visual inspection.
Coated pipe additionally receives coating-thickness measurement and holiday detection. Each consignment ships with a full documentation pack — mill test certificates, hydro charts and NDT reports — traceable back to the raw coil heat number.
Drinking-water transmission and municipal distribution, irrigation and lift-irrigation schemes, river-linking projects, sewage and storm-water mains, oil and gas cross-country pipelines, power-plant cooling water lines, marine and structural piling, and slurry or industrial process lines.
The plant is at Plot No. 847, Sector-3, Indorama Mandir Road, Pithampur, District Dhar – 454774, Madhya Pradesh, India — in the Pithampur Industrial Hub near Indore, which gives good road access for dispatch across central and western India.
